This is the biggest issue with modern warfare and our current politcal leaders. In the past, when there were kings and queens as leaders, they went to war and their entire families were on the front lines fighting and defending civilians. That entire equation has changed, what we have now is a system where our world leaders never have to put their lives on the line. They sit from afar and press a button and people die. There is a complete imbalance in what war entails and what is risked by those who call for war.

When Witjawan says Indonesia dealt with multipolarity in a good way, he seems to completely ignore the CIA coup that installed Suharto and wiped out millions of his citizens for supporting neutrality.
In fact, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him deal with this issue on the show, which makes the constant passive agreement anti-Sino remarks locate his loyalty in Washington rather than Southeast Asia.
Good interview though. He got Mearsheimer to clearly illustrate the most key points on all of the issues.

for example, 42:00 gita is correct that zionism was not meant to commit genocide, but john wrongly stated that they know from the start they're going to cleanse the palestinian because they couldnt have established a jewish state among palestinians. well, zionism started in late 19th century was to find homeland for the jews, not to establish a jewish state, therefore it's possible to live side by side as long as they're not praticing apartheid as in the original zionism. first generation of aliyah among zionists in 19th century was relatively peaceful, things gotten worse only since balfour declaration and jewish businessmen (rothschild etc) who bought many lands etc.
but then, gita didn't try to debate john either though i think he knows john was wrong here.

This is extremely foolish and ignorant of China's history. During the cultural revolution for example, China export its marxist revolutionary teachings to many countries, provide training and arms to native armed groups (thus they are known as maoist revolutionaries), host radio stations within China itself for these maoist forces. For example, the Communist Party of Malaya which fought an insurgency against Malaysia's government has its radio station in hunan China.
This only come to an end when Mao died and Deng took over. He decide that China should build economic ties instead of export marxist revolution and ordered these forces to step down. And they did.
With the way China is going today, who knows if Xi will revive the cultural revolution again and build a cult of personality for himself?

A lot of respect for the professor. What I would like to hear is the consideration of the cultures' influences in the decision making, rather than focusing on how the rest of the non-Western world would make decision based on pure Western thinking. Remember, China would have to govern Taiwan island once they re-unified, which is unlike Israel (who would just go ahead to cleanse), or Russia (who would be happy if Ukraine remains a rump state).

‘The reason u need a lobby … is because there’s a lot of instances where isreal’s interests conflicts with American interests and lobby wants to go to great lengths to make sure isreal’s interests prevail’ wow, quite simple but never thought of it this way.

Most countries in the world produce weapons and equipment to defend themselves and therefore have a greater say in what, the costs, the aims and expectations are for their defence.
America on the other hand produces weapons and equipment almost entirely for the Profit of the Weapons Manufacturers. So as you can see the motivation are different. Russia and China are concerned a war maybe "put upon them" where the U.S has no such fear and is often going to war purely for profitable reasons. So who is the threat to World Peace?

US has been promoting his 2nd amendment to the world. is it also a coincidence that gang violence in neighboring Central and South America has been very tricky to resolve? I don't think so. there has to be a way to impose more stringent regulations to this dangerous, deadly business

Let the SE Asian countries work out their problems themselves . In their culture they are very careful not to cut off all communication. The western culture is more pro or contra . Black or white, no grey area to look for a solution .

@@paulvandoorn9405 I do not disagree with the points you are making. My comments was to show the contrast between the motivations of the different incentives that induce the productions of arms and ammunitions. One was on defence and the other was primarily for greed. I conclude that when greed is the motivation war will be the result.

As noted in Haaretz, Netanyahu seems to boast of his knowledge of the US by saying, "I know what America is. America is a thing you can move very easily, move it in the right direction. They won't get in their way."
He also boasts of manipulating the U.S. in the ongoing peace process, as the Washington Post points out:
"They asked me before the election if I'd honor [the Oslo accords]," he said. "I said I would, but ... I'm going to interpret the accords in such a way that would allow me to put an end to this galloping forward to the '67 borders. How did we do it? Nobody said what defined military zones were. Defined military zones are security zones; as far as I'm concerned, the entire Jordan Valley is a defined military zone. Go argue."
America, apparently, is moved by the Israel lobby. Evidence to the contrary has yet to emerge.

It saddens me that these are the kinds of people who don't get into politics. They know too much about how things work to want to waste their time. At best, they'll serve as consultants, but never throw their hats into the running for a seat. They know it's a losing proposition.
